Behind the Scenes: A Sex & The City Birthday Party

My younger sister celebrated her 22nd birthday last weekend, and obviously we had to go all out.

We hosted a Sex & The City themed birthday party complete with dancing, cosmopolitans, and Carrie-inspired decision making…

The Decor

As someone who plans parties and events for a living, I am always on the hunt for special details, beautiful accessories, and brands that just get the vision.

So as I was searching for ways to bring my pinterest board to life, I was introduced to the party brand of my dreams…

Bonjour Fête is a Party Boutique with everything you could ever dream of for planning a celebration. Their curated selection of party supplies, favors, gifts, and seasonal decor is unmatched, inspiring, and beyond chic. And while they don’t directly advertise toward adult celebrations, there truly is something for every age and occasion.

It’s one of those brands that I should not be allowed to shop at, since I actually want everything they offer. I was overwhelmed by how inspired I became when scrolling through the aisles. I wanted one of everything. I wanted to throw a million parties.

The team was so kind to help me find a few decorations to add to our table at the restaurant. We had to keep it lowkey, despite my objections, so we decided on a pink striped runner with matching cups and napkins. And of course, a pink Happy Birthday Banner.

But if I had things my way, I would have added these sparkling Fringe Banners, Martini Glass balloons, Confetti, and Cake Stands galore. I can’t wait for my own birthday to go all out into the sparkle theme…

The Gift Bags

For the gift bags, we thought it would be fun to include a gift that embodied each character. Working in PR, I understand the importance of a great gift bag. Sometimes, we go to events just for the overflowing gift bags.

I want my sister’s party to have that same attention to detail, and personalized touch. Gift giving is my love language, and I really wanted to make her and her friends feel spoiled and special.

However, we were also going out dancing after dinner, so these specific gift bags became more of a gift pouch. We wanted all four products to fit in a tiny purse, and luckily these incredible brands delivered with travel sized products so cute and mini I actually experienced cuteness aggression.

The Charlotte:

Charlotte York is traditional, consistently chic, and a classic Upper East Sider. Her feminine, old-money and timeless fashion style would not be complete without her perfectly shiny hair.

Lolavie is the epitome of a Charlotte product, unsuspecting and demure on the outside, but on the inside you’ll find a force to be reckoned with. The Glossing Detangler is a hard working, and multi-tasking product delivered in chic and subtle black and white packaging. The Miranda:

When dreaming of the right “Miranda” in our gift bags, Fur felt like a natural choice. Fur’s hero product, the Fur Oil is a must-have for anyone who shaves. The Carrie:

No Sex & The City themed party would be complete without Cosmopolitans. Luckily for us, we can now enjoy Carrie’s signature drink wherever and whenever in a cute little pink can.

Loverboy Cosmopolitans are a fan favorite among my friends, which is saying a lot for a canned drink. On the rare occasion we are not ordering an overpriced cocktail in a glass with an outlandish garnish, we are turning to the loverboys. Plus, the cute pink cans make the perfect addition to any table scape or pregame.

The DIYs

Party planning is my love language, and I believe that the small personal details you put into the experience are the ones that make the most impact. This time, I was lucky enough to have an extra set of hands in my sister’s best friend, Georgina. We worked together to design and create a few personal touches that everyone loved.

My go-to for a while now has been creating personalized matchbooks for any and all occasions. I even have a template on canva that everyone uses to DIY them at home. It’s so easy- simply print on sticker paper and get a pack of matchbooks on amazon for a chic and personal touch. We created SATC themed matches, with different iconic quotes on the back. I love adding these personal ones to my matchbook collection, like a scrapbook of my life. Georgina created these, and they couldn’t have been more perfect. She also made stickers of each character, which was so much fun to trade around.

Our final DIY project was less DIY and more custom ordered. We had temporary tattoos made from an iconic and sassy baby picture of my sister. It was stupid in the best way, and we had so much fun playing around and putting them on. A must have for any upcoming bachelorettes, anniversaries, and graduations.

I couldn’t help but wonder…

The night was so much fun. La Caverna was the most perfect spot to host a birthday dinner, and the team was incredibly kind and acommodating. It was like being in a 90s club- but with food. We had margarita towers and tacos, and finished the night with a birthday cake I brought in from our favorite bakery.

It was a perfect night celebrating someone so special, and even more special to celebrate with her own Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha.
